Custom CNC Machined Parts

How we turn customer drawings and 3D files into reliable machined components — from one-piece prototypes to repeat production.

Custom CNC parts are not standard catalogue products

Many CNC parts are not standard items that can be selected from a catalogue. They are custom components designed for a specific machine, product, assembly, fixture, device, or engineering project. The size, material, tolerance, surface finish, thread, hole position, and functional details are usually defined by the customer's drawing or 3D model.

At JF Precision, we focus on custom CNC machined parts for overseas customers. Whether the part is a one-piece prototype, a small-batch component, or a repeat production item, our work starts from the customer's design file and technical requirements.

What are custom CNC machined parts?

Custom CNC machined parts are components manufactured according to a customer's specific design, rather than a standard product specification. Depending on the geometry they are produced as custom CNC milled parts or custom CNC turned parts. They are commonly used in:

  • Automation Equipment
  • Robotics
  • Medical Devices
  • Automotive & EV Projects
  • Industrial Machinery
  • Electronic Equipment
  • Testing Fixtures
  • Mechanical Assemblies
  • Product Development

These parts may include housings, brackets, shafts, connectors, adapters, plates, bushings, sleeves, covers, fixtures, blocks, pins, and other precision mechanical components. Because each part is different, custom CNC machining requires careful review of the drawing, material, tolerance, machining method, and inspection plan before production.

What we need from customers before machining

To manufacture a custom CNC part accurately, we usually need the following information — our guide on how to prepare an RFQ covers each point in detail:

Required InformationPurpose
3D fileTo understand the full part geometry
2D drawingTo confirm tolerances, threads, surface finish, and critical dimensions
MaterialTo choose the correct machining process and tools
QuantityTo plan prototype, small-batch, or production machining
Surface finishTo confirm appearance and functional requirements
Tolerance requirementsTo control key dimensions
Application notesTo understand assembly or performance needs

A 3D file shows the shape of the part. A 2D drawing tells us which dimensions are most important. For simple parts, a 3D file may be enough for quotation. For precision parts, we strongly recommend sending a 2D drawing with tolerances, threads, and surface finish requirements.

Materials for custom CNC parts

JF Precision machines both metal and plastic custom components. See our full Available Materials list for details.

MetalsCommon Choices
  • Aluminum 6061
  • Aluminum 7075
  • Aluminum 2024
  • Stainless Steel 303
  • Stainless Steel 304
  • Stainless Steel 316
  • Carbon & Alloy Steel
  • Brass & Copper
  • Titanium Alloys
Engineering PlasticsCommon Choices
  • POM
  • PEEK
  • PTFE
  • Nylon
  • PC
  • ABS

Different materials require different machining strategies. For example, aluminum is widely used for lightweight structural parts, stainless steel is used for strength and corrosion resistance, copper is used for electrical or thermal applications, and engineering plastics are used for insulation, wear resistance, or weight reduction.

How we control custom CNC part accuracy

Every custom part has different accuracy requirements. Some parts only need general machining tolerance. Others require tight tolerance on holes, shafts, flat surfaces, threads, sealing faces, or assembly positions. At JF Precision, we review the drawing before machining and identify the critical features that need extra control.

Our machining and inspection process may include the following steps, documented in an inspection report:

  • CNC Milling
  • CNC Turning
  • 5-Axis Machining
  • Precision Fixture Setup
  • Rough & Finish Machining
  • Thread Gauge Inspection
  • Hole & Bore Inspection
  • CMM Inspection
  • Surface Roughness Testing
  • Final Dimensional Inspection

For tight-tolerance custom CNC parts, we recommend that customers clearly mark critical dimensions on the drawing. This allows us to focus machining and inspection control on the features that affect real function. Learn more about our inspection capabilities and equipment list.

Surface finishing for custom CNC components

Many custom CNC parts require surface treatment after machining. Where a coating adds thickness, the coating allowance has to be planned before the part is machined. Common finishing options include:

  • Anodizing
  • Hard Anodizing
  • Sandblasting
  • Polishing
  • Brushing
  • Nickel Plating
  • Electroplating
  • Black Oxide
  • Passivation
  • Powder Coating
  • Painting

Surface finish is not only about appearance. It can also affect corrosion resistance, wear resistance, electrical performance, insulation, part thickness, and assembly fit. For precision parts, customers should confirm whether key dimensions need to be measured before or after surface treatment. See all options on our Treatments & Finishes page.

Why choose JF Precision for custom CNC machined parts?

JF Precision supports custom CNC machining for overseas customers who need precision parts made according to their own drawings, backed by our quality assurance system. Our advantages include:

  • Custom CNC machining based on 3D files and 2D drawings

  • Support for metal and plastic materials

  • CNC milling, CNC turning, and 5-axis machining

  • One-piece prototypes and small-batch production

  • Tight-tolerance machining capability

  • Surface finishing support

  • Inspection reports and material certificates available when required
